Conference on Creativity-A Great Success

The first Creative Connections conference in Atlantic Canada, hosted by the Atlantic Centre for Creativity and the University of New Brunswick took place in Fredericton, from November 16 – 18, at the WU Conference Centre, as well as the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design for special events. It was interdisciplinary and so many fields of study took part including: education, engineering, science, the arts, business and entrepreneurship. Each offered a different perspective on the concept of creativity and its connection to how innovation takes place.

The conference had a welcome reception on Thursday evening with a spectacular musical performance, in the next days over 40 presentations and interactive workshops took place on topics such as design thinking, social innovation, music composition and creative problem-solving. There were three keynotes: Nora Young, the famous CBC host of Spark, a program on new technology, Susan Crichton, Director of the Innovative Learning Centre of UBC and Marjan Eggermont renowned engineering professor and visual artist from the University of Calgary, as well as music, films, and a creative showcase.

The goal of this conference was to provide a rich learning environment where students, educators from many fields, administrators, artists, entrepreneurs and community leaders could meet, share and learn collaboratively in order to advance their understanding of creativity and ability to express new ideas, and innovate.
