Co-Presidents’ Message 2025

Dear CSEA/SCÉA Members,

We would like to begin by expressing our deepest appreciation for your support of CSEA/SCÉA. As well, we would like to thank you for your steadfast dedication to advancing art education at the provincial, national and international levels.

We would also like to take this opportunity to recognize the profound work of our current (2024-2026) and past executive members (2022-2024). As we ponder 2024, we feel especially grateful—it was a very productive and meaningful year for CSEA/SCÉA. Our CSEA/SCÉA 2024 National Conference (Prepositioning, Propositioning, Positioning Art-Education) which started on Thursday, June 27th and concluded on Sunday, June 30th was a huge success thanks to the leadership of our Conference Chair, Nicole Lee, the generosity of NSCAD University for their partnership in hosting this event, the many volunteers, guest speakers, and executive members (2022—2024 term) who took a lead role via their committee-related conference work.

Since our AGM on June 30th, we held our first CSEA/SCÉA Executive meeting of the 2024-2026 term on Oct. 21st and we have also been working closely with many of our new Executive members and those who are returning members but serving in new roles. In early December, many of us gathered online to dream about and explore possibilities together. We left both of these meetings feeling inspired—we are so grateful to be working alongside so many wonderful people!

We would like to conclude our remarks by congratulating Peter Vietgen (CSEA/SCÉA’s Vice President, President and now Past President). Peter was recently awarded the Ray Blackwell Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Art Education from the Ontario Art Education Association (OAEA). We wish you all the best for 2025 and look forward to our next gathering.

With care and gratitude,
Kathy Mantas and Joanne Ursino
