Artist Statement |
Kathy Mantas, teacher, artist-researcher, and mother, is currently an Associate Professor of Education at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario. Kathy’s research interests include life-long learning, arts education, artful inquiry, creativity in teaching-learning contexts, holistic and wellness education, and motherhood and mothering studies. Her art has been exhibited primarily in Canada and has been published in several women’s studies and arts-based research books and publications. Currently, she is exploring concepts of (dis)location, (dis)connection and home through a photographic journey titled, Tree Root Series: Rizoma. By sharing this work-in-progress Kathy would like to invite the viewer to slow down, move into a space of artful play, lights and shadows, colours and contrasts, and “becoming aware of” what is sometimes overlooked. |
