CSEA/SCÉA Time Capsule: Commemorating 70 Years of Art Education
Commemorating 70 Years of Art Education
For seventy years, the Canadian Society for Education through the Art (CSEA/SCÉA) has been a space of gathering for artists, educators, and scholars committed to the transformative potential of art in teaching-learning. From coast to coast to coast, across the vast and complex lands of Turtle Island, CSEA/SCÉA has supported and promoted vibrant dialogues, experimental practices, and enduring relationships in the field of art education.
As we approach our 70th anniversary, we invite you to be part of this momentous occasion by contributing to a 70-day countdown celebration—a living archive of collective memory, artistic inquiry, and pedagogical reflection. This time capsule is not only a retrospective but also a gesture toward the future, honouring the past while imagining what lies ahead for art education throughout the country.
Submission Details
We welcome contributions that embody creative, poetic, scholarly, and pedagogical engagements with CSEA/SCÉA’s ongoing history and impact. Submissions may take a variety of forms, including but not limited to:
- Images: Photographs, artworks, visual artifacts, or personal archival materials that capture meaningful moments within CSEA/SCÉA’s history.
- Text: Poetic reflections, personal narratives, theoretical propositions, or scholarly essays that explore CSEA/SCÉA’s influence on art education, pedagogical experimentation, or professional growth.
- Interdisciplinary Contributions: Hybrid forms that weave together image and text, material traces, sound, or other sensory engagements with the past and present of CSEA/SCÉA.
If you have attended a CSEA/SCÉA event, symposium, or conference, we encourage you to share your reflections and creative responses. Whether it is a pivotal conversation, a collaborative project, a moment of transformation in your making-researching-teaching practice, or an artistic inquiry sparked by CSEA/SCÉA, your perspective is part of the fabric of this evolving community.

This call is more than an invitation to look back; it is a recognition of the ways in which art education has been shaped and (re)shaped through dialogue, experimentation, and collective care. It is an opportunity to honour the relationships and practices that have emerged through CSEA/SCÉA and to weave new connections as we step forward into the next seventy years.
In care and connection,
Marzieh Mosavarzadeh, PhD (she/her)
Director of Communications–CSEA/SCÉA
