In Memoriam: Peter Perdue
Dr. Peter Purdue sadly passed away on May 9th, 2015. For over 50 years Dr. Purdue dedicated his career to visual arts education before his retirement at the University of Saskatchewan in 2012. He came from NewZealand, studied in the United States, and settled in Canada contributing greatly to Canadian visual art education.
For years he worked with other members to build the Saskatchewan Art Education Collective, (SAEC)when it was called the Saskatchewan Society for Education Through Art (SSEA). Even in retirement he continued to contribute to the SAEC desiring art education in Saskatchewan to thrive. His kindness, compassion, love of art education and empathic nature has encouraged and motivated students of all ages. During his life he taught art in galleries, elementary schools, alternative educational settings, high schools, and at the university level inspiring thousands of teachers, artists, students, including aboriginal youths and disadvantaged children. Dr. Purdue was a teacher that influenced students at all levels by empowering them to believe that they can make a positive change. We will miss him!
